European Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington has named Robert Karlsson as his first vice-captain for the 2020 contest at Whistling Straits.
Karlsson represented Europe double in Ryder Cups as a player, including in the win at the K Club before returning to play at the defeat at Valhalla two decades later.
The Swede also worked alongside Harrington as part of Thomas Bjorn’s backroom staff for the 2018 competition, where Europe ran out persuasive 16.5-11.5 winners in Le Golf National.
Karlsson registered three factors for Europe from his seven games and was only beaten in among them, thrashing Justin Leonard in the singles at 2008 and forming an unbeaten partnership.
The 49-year-old brings an abundance of experience to the group, previously won the European Tour’s Order of Merit and having listed 11 European Tour successes from over 600 appearances.
Qualification for Europe Ryder Cup team will get underway together with the year-long effort running through the exact same event in September 2020, in the BMW PGA Championship.
The 2020 Ryder Cup takes place at which Europe will soon be bidding register their success in the contest and to retain the trophy.
