Boston Red Sox at San Diego Padres MLB Pick – August 24th

I said in my selection that I didnt believe the Toronto Blue Jays ought to be preferred on the street, particularly against anyone at this point. Thus, when I watched them as road favorites against the Seattle Mariners, who had been debuting their prized pitching prospect, Justus Sheffield, I jumped all over Seattle. Throw in the fact that Toronto had dropped five straight matches, along with the Mariners had won his last three series, and it felt as a wonderful worth spot.
The game itself was an affair that jump out to an early lead and saw Sheffield is roughed up by Toronto. The M fought back to the game and showed a great deal of heart and took control of the contest with a three-run sixth inning. In the end, Seattle came off with the 7-4 victory, and we picked up another underdog winner.
As last night we picked up our eighth winner in our ten bets after a slow beginning to August we have officially caught fire recently. And this hasnt been an instance of placing a bunch of wood and backing favorites each night. As either money, six of them have come of those eight stakes that were winnings or about underdogs. We will look to stay hot tonight where the Padres sponsor the Red Sox, since we head to San Diego.
The Boston Red Sox are at San Diego Saturday for game two of a three-game set from the Padres. Even the Red Sox dominated game only last night, picking up the 11-0 success. The Padres shut down all night long as he tossed seven shutout innings. And J.D. Martinez provided the firepower as he burst for a three-hit nighttime, two of that left the park, along with seven RBI.
Even the Red Sox are trying to remain in the search for the 2nd wild card in the American League and now course the Cleveland Indians and the Oakland Athletics by six and a half games for the last playoff spot in the championship game. The defending World Series champs need to discover a means to pick up a win tonight against an Padres team that was underachieving and have won six from their past eight games.
For San Diego, the Padres have dropped seven from the last eleven and three straight games. This team is attempting to find a way to live. The Padres have been disappointing this season, but theyd like to play spoiler tonight.
Starting for the Red Sox is Nathan Eovaldi (1-0 6.69 ERA), also for the Padres it is Dinelson Lamet (2-2 3.95 ERA). The game is set in eight and a half runs. The Red Sox are -119 road favorites. First pitch is scheduled for 5:40 PM PST in PETCO Park in San Diego.
What a difference a year makes for Nathan Eovaldi. Last season, he had been the hero of this Red Sox championship run. This season he has battled injuries and inconsistency all year. After starting the season in the rotation, he published results that were weak before getting hurt and lost a few months of actions.
Boston brought back him in July for a middle relief man from the bullpen, and again he really struggled to remain consistent. Now with Chris Sale going down for the remainder of the season, Eovaldi is being asked to rejoin the rotation, and Boston wants him help continue this team into the postseason and to once more be a hero.
It will be intriguing to understand how nicely Eovaldi pitches tonight against a Padres team thats really struggling with Tatis out of the lineup to score runs. The Padres are currently averaging over three runs on the game since Tatis obtained hurt.
Dinelson Lamet is starting to earn a name for himself this year for San Diego. The second-year man out of the Dominican Republic has shown some flashes of being rather good in limited work this season. Where he ended up pitching seven innings and allowing no runs, he pitched a stone against the Seattle Mariners in August.
However, the flashes of achievement have been that as he hasnt been able to stay consistent enough to be trusted. His ERA was more than five runs in five July starts, but he has been much better here in August because his ERA is merely 2.50 in three looks. The major problem for Lamet is that he just doesnt get into games, since he has pitched five innings or less six out of his last eight starts. And he will surely have his hands full tonight against a Boston team that is next in the majors in runs scored and on-base percent, and first in batting average.
I believe he is in for a rude awakening tonight contrary to this hard-hitting Boston squad, while Ive been impressed by everything Dinelson Lamet has performed in his last few starts. Slimming down the Reduce Seattle Mariners does not prove that youre able to handle a lineup like the one Boston may use tonight.
Paddack got blasted for six runs in only two and a third innings of work while I do not think Lamet will be as awful as Chris Paddack was yesterday for San Diego, I do think he will give multiple runs up. Nathan Eovaldi is definitely a card that is difficult to predict, but something tells me he sees a way to shut this down Padres team that can not score runs at this time.
Ive been preaching all season that causal bettors put focus on the starting pitching matchup of a game. Together with how all around the place Eovaldi has been this season, and with Lamet pitching I could see a case being made that Lamet is the better side of this starting pitching matchup. But is that the Red Sox are the much superior team that is overall.
Boston has had their own share of ups and downs this year, but even then, they still have ten more wins than the Padres. And this group has nearly all their roster from last seasons World Championship team to be totally honest, and that I think they find a way to back door until it is all done and said.
And to accomplish this, they will have find a way to beat teams. And thats just exactly what I believe will occur. I normally like to wager underdogs as I really like the payouts, but in a place similar to this one where I feel the favorite is being undervalued, I do not mind laying just a small timber if the cost is perfect. Give me that the Boston Red Sox tonight in game two from San Diego, setting -119!
