Barnsley and Leeds say they are“working together“ to evaluate the audience difficulty which marred Sunday’s derby at Oakwell.
South Yorkshire Police are understood to have launched an investigation after the arrest of three individuals on suspicion of public order offences and one for assault.
A spokesperson for the two clubs said:“Barnsley Football Club and Leeds United Football Club are frustrated with reports of violence in Sunday’s match and are working with each other to assess the matter.“
Fans clashed at the away end towards the close of the match with stewards and, from the stand, fighting also broke out in another incident.
Leeds scored two goals in the final eight minutes to clinch a 2-0 triumph and then come back to the top of the Sky Bet Championship.
Arsenal loanee Eddie Nketiah opened the scoring in the 84th minute.
